History
Name of Huanuco
Some of the best Hispanic chroniclers was collected many different versions about the origin of the word Huánuco. According Martin de Murua (1615) the word drift of wanu (manure), because of the difficult labor of the peasants in that time.
Another version was collected of the chroniclers based in the legend of “Las tres jircas”, because three rival warriors, a huaylas, a pasco and a panatahua that dispute the love of a beautiful maiden, in punish the god Pachacamac converted the warriors in three hills and a lightning fulminating the maiden, saying in quechua wanucuy (dead)

Description
Localized in the center-eastern region of Peru, the department of Huanuco has an apparent proximity to the capital of Peru. It could be affirmed that Huanuco constitutes a synthesis of the variety that exist in Peru. In their 36848.85 Km2 (2,9 % of the national territory). Huanuco has a 7 of the 8 natural regions that Javier Pulgar Vidal propones for Peru. Chala is the only region that escapes of the territory. If we refer about the 3 macro regions: cost, mountain range and the jungle. In general terms Huanuco is constitute for a 61 % of jungle and 39% of mountain range. This department limit at north with San Martin, Northeast with Loreto, east with Ucayali, south with Pasco, southeast with Lima, west with Ancash, northeast with La Libertad.



Touristic Paradises
Tingo Maria the city of the “Bella Durmiente”
Located to 600 m.s.n.m, in the shore of Huallaga. Tingo Maria is a typical and tropical city that frame in a beautiful scene of high jungle and also it is dominate for the imponent view of the "Bella Durmiente”

Archeological site Kotosh Cotos, also called "Templo de las Manos" Cruzadas, (first sculpture of America). It is located at 5 kilometers from Huanuco, it is assumed that the buildings date back from the pre ceramic or archaic final. (11000 - 6600 b.C.).

Mountain range of Huayhuash, located on the limit between the provinces of Huanuco and Ancash. With different alps type or himalaya (like snowy mountains). The most important and difficult peaks are Yerupaja, Siula (6.536 m.a.s.l.), Sarapo (6.143 m.a.s.l.) and Randoy (5.883 m.a.s.l.).
Town of Tomay Kichwa, located at 18 kilometers from Huanuco. A population that conserves old houses with wide patios and picturesque landscapes. There is the sunlit house of Micaela Villegas, "La Perricholi", famous lover of the Virrey Amat.
